Desroches Island Fly Fishing Adventures

Seychelles Bonefishing, Diversity, and Luxury Accommodations

Desroches Island Fly Fishing Adventures is a new fly fishing operation in the Seychelles. An experienced fishing outfitter has joined with the Desroches Island Resort, an existing luxury resort, to offer a new standard of luxury fishing adventures.

The fishing program is limited to 6 anglers per week during the 6-month season, October – May. Desroches is a near perfect destination for non-fishing companions. However, it’s also an excellent alternative to the more remote or rustic operations in the Seychelles for anglers interested in great fishing paired with the best in accommodations and amenities.

Desroches Island is located 143 miles southwest of Mahe, a 40-minute flight. The Desroches Island Resort and its collection of Villas sits on the beautiful North-West facing beaches of the island and offers guests a private luxury experience. Anglers will be accommodated in a 4 bedroom, fully equipped Villa featuring its own private swimming pool, central living room / gathering area, and a modern, fully equipped kitchen, where meals are prepared by private chef. Villas also offer a mini-bar, plasma television, dvd players, an internet connection, laundry service, personal butler, and a golf cart for exploring the island. Each of the Villa’s 4 bedrooms is air-conditioned with a private bath, deck and an outdoor shower. From here, anglers will have access to the excellent and remote fly fishing flats of St Joseph’s and Poivre Atolls.

Poivre Atoll and St. Joseph’s Atoll offer large numbers of bonefish and an incredible array of species; the fishing that made the fishing in the Seychelles famous. Both atoll’s have miles of excellent flats for bonefish, Indo-Pacific permit, trevally, milkfish, and trigger fish, as well as reef and bluewater fishing for laundry list that includes, tunas, Dorado, Baracuda, wahoo, sailfish, marlin, jacks, grouper, snapper, to mention a few. Each fishing package consists of 6 fishing days split into 3 days fishing Poivre Atoll and 3 days fishing St. Joseph’s Atoll. Both fisheries are less than an hour ride on a modern, comfortable fast ferry. Guides and skiffs await the anglers’ arrival on the atolls.

Poivre Atoll is the smaller of the two and is comprised of 2 landmasses: Poivre and the South Island. These two islands are connected by an extensive flats system that offer a mix of coral, turtle grass and hard sand bottomed flats, however the coral is the predominant bottom. Poivre is an excellent bonefishery, however this location has a reputation of producing superior fishing for the exotic fish species of the Seychelles. Most notably Indo-Pacific Permit, Triggerfish, GT’s, Bluefin Trevally, and Milkfish.

St. Joseph’s Atoll is the larger atoll measuring 4.35 miles x 2.49 miles. The Atoll is comprised of a string of small islands, which are connected by the vast sand bar and turtle grass patches surrounding a lagoon. The flats on St Joseph’s are incredibly picturesque and have proven to be very productive, especially for large numbers of bonefish. Experienced anglers can rack up big numbers of bones orset out after the atolls population of Indo-Pacific Permit. Blue water and reef fishing can be an excellent option, but the main attraction at St Joseph’s is the bonefishing. It’s important to note that no skiffs were previously allowed on St. Joseph’s, however this restriction was lifted in November 2010. The use of flats skiffs on this fishery greatly expands it’s potential and unlocks a huge area that was previous inaccessible by foot.
