Permit Alley, Belize - Special Introductory Rates!

Southern Belize, and particularly Placencia, has long been known as one of the top hotspots in the world for the elusive permit. While found in good numbers close to the mainland, the real action is found on the ocean flats located about 14 miles offshore near the barrier reef, an area known to cognoscenti as "Permt Alley". These skinny water, white sand wading flats are gin-clear ocean water and offer what many consider the ultimate angling experience, stalking tailing permit on foot! When fishing the top 6 hours of the tide, it is not unusual for anglers to get 20, 30 or more legitimate shots at tailing permit.

Crossing the open ocean between the mainland and permit

alley is a weather dependent affair in a small flats skiff. But fortunately for permit lovers, Tarpon Caye Lodge, owned and operated by world-renowned permit guide and guru, Charlie Leslie, is located smack dab in the center of this permit haven. A comfortable canopied 28-foot launch insures a comfortable ride out to the Caye. But permit aren't the only game in town. For those who like diversity, there are plenty of tarpon (hence the name, Tarpon Caye), bonefish and other species to keep you occupied.
The lodge is basic, but clean and comfortable accommodating a maximum of 6 anglers in 3 double occupancy cabanas with tiled floors and bath, comfortable new twin beds, generated electricity and 4-way ventilation to take advantage of cooling ocean breezes. Each cabana has a porch with hammocks and Adirondack chairs overlooking home flat. The lodge dining room/clubhouse features an open-air deck overlooking the water where anglers enjoy a relaxing happy hour before sitting down to one of Tarpon Caye's signature Caribbean Gourmet dinners.

To help introduce more anglers to this incredible fishery and great facility, Charlie is offering his remaining open spots in April and May (prime time) at his low season summer rates! This is a 20% discount off the normal high season rates.
At this special rate, a 7-night/6-day package in April or May will cost only $2,050 per person double occupancy. This is one of the best deals in flats fishing we've seen in years. Please see the Tarpon Caye Lodge webpage for details and please call or email for current availability.

Villa Maria January 31 - February 6, 2009 $6,350 per person - 1 rod open.
Situated the furthest downstream of all the lodges,
Villa Maria offers 15 kilometers of what is considered the best early season water. The first week of February is considered by many to be the very best week of the season when anglers can expect all the Villa Maria pools to be stuffed with dime bright

fish, fresh from the salt. This week is normally rebooked every year and this rare opening will vanish very quickly.
Kau Tapen - Jan 10 - 17, 6 rods; Feb 14 - 21, 6 rods - $7,895
Situated just upstream of Villa Maria's water, the venerable Kau Tapen has remained the crème de la crème since it first opened in 1985. Kau Tapen 64 pools span over 25 kilometers of water on the Rio Grande plus bonus miles on the tributary Rio Menendez, representing the largest tract of water of any lodge on the river. Like Villa Maria, Kau Tapen is historically rebooked every year by repeat guests. At this moment we have 6 rods open for January 10th - 17th, a 6 rods open for Feb 14 - 21. The middle February weeks are the most sought after on Kau Tapen waters, and that opening is certain to book up very quickly.
Aurelia Lodge
Aurelia Lodge is our newest offering on the Rio Grande. Located just above Kau Tapen's water, Aurelia offers 8-rods nearly 13 kilometers of double bank fishing on the Rio Grande plus 24 kilometers on the middle Rio Menendez. This stretch of the river could be characterized as "upper-middle" (there are still 3 more lodges upstream), and generally is most productive in February and March. We currently have all 8 rods blocked for 2 of the best weeks of the season, February 14th - 21st and March 14th - 21st. The 2009 rate will be $5,790. However, reservations confirmed by deposit before June 1st, 2008 will be honored at $5,590.

There are a few other openings including the March 13 - 20 for the popular Toon Ken/Villa Maria combo package. Please call email of call Doug Schlink for details.

Atlantic Salmon on the Restigouche

Red Pine Mountain Lodge
The Restigouche River in one of the world's best big fish rivers, and salmon approaching and even topping the magical 40-pound mark are taken each season at Red Pine (the lodge record is 47-pounds). We have a few prime openings left for the 2008 season:
June 1 - 8, 2 rods, $4,730: BIG fish week. Not numbers. For anglers seeking the salmon of a lifetime.

June 15 - 22, 1 rod: $4,840: Just one space available for what is historically considered THE best week of the season for big fish.

July 22 - 29: Due to an illness, the family who normally took this week will not be coming this summer. This is normally an excellent grilse week with some salmon mixed in. Records over the last 10 years indicate even numbered years as strong grilse years (2 to 1 over odd years). The owners would be happy to make attractive offers to any group (minimum 4 anglers), for this week. Please visit the Red Pine website or email or call Doug Schlink to discuss the possibilities.
