We look forward to hosting you at our wonderful facility on the Eagle River in Labrador, Canada.  You will soon see for yourself the wonderful spirit of Labrador which is evident everywhere – the people, the scenery, the lodge itself and the wonderful ambiance there.  We know you will treasure the memories of your trip to the Rifflin Hitch Lodge and ensure you a quality, professional product, which you will want to return to again and again.

As a conservation minded operation, we pride ourselves in offering guides well trained in the practices of “Hook and Release” fishing.  The Rifflin’ Hitch Lodge plans on being around for a long time for you and your friends to enjoy and we want to ensure the resource being around for along time.  Therefore, we offer a one Atlantic Salmon kill per week to our clients.  As world-renowned fisherman and conservationist, Lee Wulff, once said, “A good game fish is too valuable to be caught only once.  The fish you release is your gift to another anger and remember, it may have been someone’s similar gift to you.”

THE FISHING
The Eagle River is a wonderful watershed in the wilderness of Labrador.  At the Rifflin Hitch Lodge we offer approximately 25 fishing spots within comfortable distance.  Several are easy to wade; others we fish from boats or shore.

The river flows swiftly in places … it winds around islands, traverses ‘rattles’ (heavy riffles), then opens up to deep, good holding water.  One section of the river near us is many thousand feet wide, but still wadeable.  Other sections are just a few hundred feet across.  In a couple of places you can almost cast across the river!

The fish are feisty!  They travel through rugged gaps, gorges and falls before they reach their ultimate destination along the 125-mile long river.  They are strong!  Some salmon are over the 25-pound range, but even when you hook a grilse you have a fight on your hands.

In addition to world class Atlantic salmon, there are spots in the river where trout and pike abound.

ACCOMMODATIONS
You will feel warm and welcome in the ambiance of the 7,000-square foot lodge constructed of local Newfoundland & Labrador woods – juniper, spruce and pine.  All seven rooms at the Rifflin’ Hitch Lodge have 2 twin beds or 1 king-size bed.  Each room has its own complete bath with shower featuring plenty of hot water and a full complement of linens and towels.  All bedrooms are non-smoking, however, there are areas in the lodge which are available for smokers.

Each room is unique and named after flies we use in the area.  All feature homemade quilts, hand-hooked rugs, a comfortable chair for reading as well as ample storage and closet space.

The recreational room at the end of the bedroom wing features a hot tub for all who want to unwind at the end of the day.  This room also holds a pool table for those looking for a little competition amongst guests other than on the river!

The main sitting are features a river stone fireplace as well as a circular wall of windows for you to take in the magnificent view of the river and all its majesty.  A fly-tying corner is available for every ones use.  Off of this is the dining area and the built-in bar.

This area is also suitable for those who need a meeting area.  A screened porch is off of this area if the Labrador flies are a little too much.  All fishermen will love our “fishing porch” where every guest has their own locker for their personal use to hang hats, fishing vests, etc.  A boot rack, rod case storage area and a wet rain gear closet add to the convenience of this entry.

For those looking to add to the exceptional fishing experience of the Eagle River, we have canoes at the lodge if you would enjoy a few hours paddling down the river.  There are also hiking trails throughout the area for those who would like to encounter the real Labrador.

DATES
The Rifflin’ Hitch Lodge operates on a Saturday turnover.  Your week will commence with dinner on the arrival Saturday and end with lunch the following Saturday.  All dates are considered as requests until confirmed in writing within a few days of our receipt of your request.

You should be able to get a taste of the fishing upon your arrival if you like, however, many may just want to get used to the layout of their “home away from home”.

We would be delighted to give you itinerary suggestions if your travel plans include a few extra days to spend in the Newfoundland & Labrador area to enjoy our wonderful people, culture and scenery.
