Lake Rotoroa Lodge

Lake Rotoroa Lodge, one of New Zealand's finest, is nestled in the northern extremity of New Zealand's Southern Alps.

Lake Rotoroa Lodge is far from the maddening crowds in this isolated, beautiful, unspoiled location surrounded by the forest fairyland of the Nelson Lakes National Park.

From the Lodge's lakeside location, guests look to the towering peaks of the Travers Range, splendor only matched by the quality and ambiance of the Lodge itself.

The Lodge provides luxurious facilities coupled with old world charm and relaxed personal attention to all our guest's requirements.

They offer friendly and professional New Zealand hospitality, with a world class reputation for trout fishing, cuisine and service.

The Lodge was chosen by ESPN as the location to film two major television series featuring brown trout fishing. Lake Rotoroa Lodge hosted Robert Wagner for one of the series and fishing legend Flip Pallot for the other.

Many different activities are available at Lake Rotoroa Lodge, such as bird watching, canoeing, nature walks, horse trekking, arts & wines tours, rafting and golf tours to name a few, making this a ideal location for couples.

Trout Fishing at Lake Rotoroa Lodge

Lake Rotoroa is one of New Zealand's top trout fishing destinations, and perhaps one of the best brown trout fisheries in the world.

Enjoy fly fishing on crystal clear streams and rivers, with over 26 accessible by road, and another 18 by helicopter, taking you to some great wilderness locations.

Lake Rotoroa Lodge offers a complete service for both experienced and novice anglers. The fly fishing season begins on the 1st of October and ends on the 30th of April.

Trout Fishing at Lake Rotoroa Lodge

Dry fly and fishing with lightly weighted nymphs tests the skill of the most discerning angler. New Zealand trout are larger than the trout Americans are used to catching. Fortunately, they are not as selective. Don't be overly concerned about "matching the hatch".  The lodge has an excellent selection of fishing tackle and equipment available for guests use, including over 40 rods from Sage and Thomas & Thomas, all with lines and reels, etc.; large numbers of Simms Gore-Tex waders in both men's and woman's sizes and boots to go with them. This allows our guests to come to the lodge with only a rain jacket and they can enjoy their fishing in comfort with first class equipment. In turn this means that they do not have to drag their fishing equipment around New Zealand with them for the sake of a few days fishing.

Internationally recognized professional fishing guides will show you the art of stalking, spotting and delicately presenting a fly to big brown trout in crystal clear water.

This is the ultimate trout fishing experience and offers some of the most challenging and rewarding fishing in the world.
