| McKenzie River Lodge is located in the pristine wilderness of western Labrador, right at the outlet of Andre Lake into the famed McKenzie River. The area offers an unusual variety of species for Labrador with plentiful lake trout, brook trout, northern pike and whitefish, but the main drawing card is incredible fishing for trophy landlocked salmon. |
|
|
The current world record Landlocked Salmon (Ouananiche) was caught in the watershed fished by MRL guests. This amazing fish weighed 22lbs 11oz. Every year, MRL clients catch Ouananiche weighing in the high teens, and it is only a matter of time until this record is broken. |
| The ounaniche of the McKenzie respond well to streamers and wooly
buggers, but some of the largest specimens have been taken on dry fly. And the McKenzie may also be among the best spots to take trophy lake trout on fly. Lakers of over 30 pounds have been taken by flyrodders and fish of over 40 pounds have been captured on conventional tackle. |
| Brook trout are abundant in parts of the watershed and will average
2 – 3 pounds, but a few squaretails topping the 8-pound mark have been recorded. Pike are also abundant in
backwater sloughs and run to 25 pounds. Often overlooked are the huge shoals of whitefish which readily take
a dry fly and can top out at near 7 pounds. McKenzie River Lodge is run by veteran Labrador Expeditions North is a professional hunting and fishing outfitter located in the heart of Labrador. Whether it be fishing for lake trout, brook trout or landlocked salmon, or hunting for caribou or black bear, McKensie River Lodge will provide you with the trip of a lifetime. |
