Sailfish Bay Lodge: Guatemala Sailfishing

Sailfish Bay Lodge is entering it's fifth season of operation and continues to post impressive numbers of sailfish hookups.

Sailfish Bay Lodge owns 3 of its own boats. Their two 32-foot Blackfins,
The Maverick and The Gypsy are skippered by Guatemalan captains, Benji and Pia, and their 38-foot Viking, Sirena is skippered by Captain Carlos.

Once these three boats are booked, Sailfish Bay Lodge also hires boats (typically 31-foot Bertrams) directly from the local fleet. These hired vessels are generally skippered by non-English speaking crews, but they do know how to catch sails, on both conventionally and fly tackle.

Sailfish Bay is a deluxe beachfront lodge overlooking the Pacific ocean, located on a barrier island between the Chiquimulia canal and the Pacific ocean. Up to 18 anglers are accommodated in 2, two-story bungalows (each containing 4 bedrooms) and 8 individual beachfront bedrooms with private baths. All rooms are air conditioned. There is a swimming pool, hot tub and full outdoor bar featuring several local beers, national liquors and a selection of Chilean wines.

Breakfasts and dinners are eaten at a restaurant overlooking the bay. Breakfasts typically consist of fresh fruit, cereal, pancakes and eggs cooked to order, fresh roasted Guatemalan coffee and freshly squeezed orange or pineapple juice.

In the evening, the chef's offerings center around fresh fish, shrimp and lobster. A hot lunch with fruit, cold beverages and beer is served daily aboard the boat.
