Silver King Lodge offers world-class Tarpon and Snook fishing, river fishing for exotic freshwater species, as well as offshore big game fishing. Situated in the second largest rainforest preserve in Central America, "Barra del Colorado," where the famous Rio Colorado empties in to the Caribbean, Silver King is Costa Rica's premier lodge operation.

Tarpon are the most sought after game fish on the east coast of Costa Rica. The average size of these fish has increased dramtically over the past 20 years, as catch & release has become much more widely practiced. Nowadays, Costa Rica is known for having the largest tarpon in the Caribbean basin with the average fish weighing well over 100 pounds! And quite a few fish eclipsing 200 pound mark are ladned each season, patricularly during the fall when the big female "yellow bellies" come in,

Barra del Colorado is also famous for its run of giant snook. While big snook are taken year round, during the fall run, snook over 30, even 40 pounds are possible.
Silver King offers a variety of offshore species as well, including tuna, wahoo, sailfish, snapper and many more. There's also a wonderful light tackle fishery for exotic fresh water species like guapote (rainbow bass), machaca and mojarra.

While traditional angling methods employed plug casting or spinning gear, the numbers of tarpon hooked, jumped and landed are now in favor of the fly fisherman.

When fly fishing at Silver King Lodge, we recommend a 14 weight rod in the ocean and a 12 weight rod in the river. Lines should be sinking, 400 grain in the river, 500 grain in the river mouth and 800 grain in the ocean. If you choose to bring your own flies, we recommend "Whistler" style flies, dark colors, black and red with some white and they should have eyes. Larger flies are best.

The lodge has 12, 23-foot boats capable of running offshore after big game. All are powered by yamaha 150 hp motors and are equipped with fishfinders, VHF 25 watt radios, and safety equipment. For the "exoctic" angler, the lodge also has a fleet of shallow draft aluminum "Jungle Boats" to get back into shallow lagoons in the mangroves to hunt snook or freshwater exoctics like guapote.

SKL has a full service tackle shop, offering free line and FinNor spinning reels. Shimano, Calcutta, Trinidad, and Penn equipment is available for loan. The shop also offers custom Star Rods and a complete selection of lures, sun glasses, sun protection and insect repellents.

All of the rooms are very spacious over 450 square feet with two queen size beds, rod racks, walk in closets and 12 foot ceilings made of wild cane. The walls are constructed of native tongue and groove hard woods. Bathrooms are fully tiled, each with its own hot water heater. All rooms are fully air-conditioned and have satellite, flat screen TVs and complimentary WiFi.

Meals are served buffet style. The chef offers a menu based on delicious local delicacies, such as sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna with wasabi mayonnaise, Langoustino Lasagne and spicy gazpacho, and accented with international favorites. For dessert enjoy guava-filled chocolate gnash cake or vanilla-rumrunner ice cream.

The laundry service is free. The lodge will wash, dry, fold and return your clothes to you everyday by 3 p.m.

The bar is always open. Yvonne serves drinks from a well selection of local spirits (gin, vodka, rum, scotch, and guaro) or a wide selection of imported liquors. Domestic spirits, local beers, wines and soft drinks are complimentary up through the Happy Hour before dinner. The bar offers Satellite TV as well as your favorite music. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres are also offered poolside via an intercom system.

Trained, licensed masseuses are on staff at SKL, so appointments are available any time. The massage rooms are air conditioned, complete with earth-lite tables, mood music and subdued lighting.
