Belize took their time reopening to international travelers.  When they finally opened their borders on October 1st, 2020, it was well thought out and highly successful.  Currently, Belize is open for business and anglers can travel with confidence that their health and safety is being taken seriously.  Belize’s COVID-19 Regulations can be found here.

El Pescador Resort

The beachfront El Pescador Fishing Lodge on Ambergris Caye has been hosting anglers who want to experience Belize fishing since 1974.  Ambergris Caye is a unique fishery with resident Tarpon (10 – 100 lbs) on the flats 12-months out of the year, complimented with summer Tarpon migration. Turneffe Flats Resort

Turneffe Flats Resort is a great option for serious anglers, as well as non-anglers.  Turneffe is a truly remote destination on the Eastside of the magnificent Turneffe Island (Atoll), which is thirty miles off the mainland of Belize, on the outside of the Barrier Reef.  The variety of fishing offered from Turneffe Flats includes the interior and ocean-side flats, mangrove lined lagoons, a number of channels, and reef edges. Anglers can expect to see Permit and large numbers of smaller bonefish on the ocean-side flats with the interior flats, lagoons, and creeks offering the best shots at Tarpon or larger bonefish (8 lbs+), as well as schools of Permit.  Click for more information on Turneffe Flats.

Belize River Lodge

Belize River Lodge, on the western bank of the Belize River, is a year-round fishery offering a variety of fishing opportunities for Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish or Snook. Belize River Lodge guests can fish any number of productive flats, channels, rivers, creeks and lagoons in a single trip. The following is a summary of the regulations for visitors entering Belize as of November 27, 2020.  We’ll update this information as much as possible, but we recommend that everyone visit the following websites addressing Belize’s protocols and regulation. and

What are the Pre-Trip Requirements for Travel to Belize

  • Belize’s country policy is to stay home if you are sick and/or presenting symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Negative results from PCR style Covid-19 test taken within 72-hours of beginning your travel to Belize (strongly recommended).  We recommend that anglers use their arrival in Belize as the benchmark for the 72-hour window.
    • Passengers who present a negative PCR test upon arrival, will be able to utilize the “fast track” entry lane for much faster arrival processing.
    • If your local testing sites can’t meet the 72 hour requirement, there are sources for at-home Covid-19 PCR test kits that can provide results electronically within the 72 hour window. Please visit or for more information on these services.
  • All visitors are required to download the free Belize Travel Health App on their mobile device and fill in the necessary information no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Belize.
    • After filling out the eight-step application process, a unique QR code will be provided which should be presented to health authorities at the international airport upon arrival. Apple users can find the “Belize Travel Health” App in the App Store, and Android users can download it from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) website.
  • US Citizens can travel to the Bahamas as tourists without having to quarantine upon arrival
  • All Travelers must present a negative result from a RT-PCR test, which must be take no more than 5 days prior to arrival.
  • Each Traveler mush submit a Travel Health Visa Application and have it approved before beginning travel to the Bahamas. The approval process can take up to 72 hours, and the negative RT-PCR result will be required to finish the application for travel.
  • Each traveler will need to present their final confirmation documents of their Travel Health Visa and their negative RT-PCR test results before boarding the aircraft, and upon arrival in the Bahamas.

What are Requirements for Visitors while in Belize

  • Passengers who do not have a negative PCR test will be required to have a Rapid COVID tests administered by the Ministry of Health upon arrival. The test will be provided at the passenger’s expense (results take approximately 15-30 minutes after taking the test).
  • Travelers are also expected to practice social distancing and bring face coverings (masks or buffs). By law, all citizens and visitors to Belize must wear a face mask when in public spaces.
