Belize River Lodge Belize River Lodge (BRL) is located on the secluded western shore of the jungle lined Belize River about 10 minutes from Belize International Airport and less than a mile from salt water. Anglers have the option of fishing the river for tarpon, cubera snapper and snook, or poling/wading salt water flats for tarpon, bonefish and permit within 45 minutes by boat from the lodge.

A total of 16 guests can be accommodated in four spacious outbuildings constructed of native mahogany and surrounded by tropical greenery and exotic flowers. Each room has a ceiling fan and its own bath and hot shower. All rooms have air conditioning. All of the buildings, including the dining room / living area, are within 50 feet of the river. The atmosphere is casual.

A Belize River Lodge Tarpon   Very good seafood and native dishes are served. Owner Mike Heusner, managed the lodge when it was known as Keller's Caribbean Sports, before purchasing and renaming the property 15 years ago. He and his associate, Marguerite Miles, are a very competent management team, Mike as a fishing outfitter and Marguerite as hostess and chef.

River and nearby flats fishing are done from sturdy 18 foot pangas (skiffs), guided by experienced English-speaking Belizeans. Mangrove lined rivers, which at times can teem with spawning tarpon and snook, and can be fished from the lodge include: the Belize River, Black Creek, Sibun River, Manatee River, several

creeks and lagoons in between. The coastline and flats provide a variety of fish species including tarpon, snook, bonefish, cubera, snapper, jacks, barracuda, grouper and others. Many species of birds and other wildlife such as manatees, howler monkeys, iguanas, turtles, snakes and occasionally crocodiles may be seen while fishing from the lodge.

Fishing Cruise - Belize River Lodge operates two live aboard vessels: the 52-foot Blue Yonder and the

deluxe Cristina, a 58-foot Hatteras. These boats can be chartered by up to 6 guests plus crew. The crew consists of captain and mate, who are also your fishing guides, and a chef who consistently prepares outstanding meals.

Vacation Cruise - The vacation cruise is similar to a fishing cruise but with less emphasis on fishing. Usually one large skiff is towed behind the cruiser and used for fishing, diving, snorkeling, exploring the reef, cayes, beaches and shore areas. More a family type cruise or for 2 or 3 couples looking for a very relaxing "get-away-from-it-all" vacation.
Fishing is from skiffs, two anglers with a guide. The vessel will be moved to different locations depending on weather, fishing conditions and of course your interest.

A Belize River Lodge Bonefish

Since the guides do not go home each night, the fishing hours are unlimited. Get up at daybreak, fish, come back for breakfast, fish, snorkel, have lunch. Fish, siesta, have dinner. Then fish until dark or after dark!

No TV, no telephones but the vessels are equipped with marine radios.

This system affords the serious angler the greatest variety of fishing conditions and the opportunity to catch a variety of fish species such as tarpon, snook, bonefish, permit, several types of snapper and grouper, jack, barracuda, shark, mackerel and others.
