Eleven Rio Palena Lodge on the Río Palena

Eleven Rio Palena Lodge is a seven-room adventure and fly fishing lodge on the Río Palena in northern Chilean Patagonia. A stay mixes walk-and-wade and float fishing with Futaleufú rafting, hiking, biking, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, plus up to two heli-assisted days. Angler Adventures books the lodge.

The lodge sits in a river valley of temperate rainforest and glacier-capped peaks, about 20 minutes from Palena Airfield. From the front door you can fish the Palena for rainbow and brown trout, walk to waterfalls, and hike old-growth forest. The Futaleufú, which Eleven ranks among the top whitewater rivers in the world, is about an hour away.

Eleven’s Experience Team builds each day around the weather and what your group wants to do. Two helipads sit on the property. Depending on the length of the stay, up to two heli-assisted adventures are included, weather permitting: glacier hiking, a glacial lagoon for stand-up paddleboarding, or a flight to backcountry trout water.

Anglers who want a dedicated week of full-day floats can look at Eleven’s sister Chile program, Martín Pescador, a seven-day itinerary split between two riverfront lodges at Puerto Cárdenas and La Junta. Call Angler Adventures at 860-434-9624 for open weeks on either program.

Fly Fishing at Rio Palena Lodge

The lodge’s own bank of the Río Palena holds rainbow and brown trout you can fish on a walk-and-wade day as soon as you arrive. Guides also pick nearby wade stretches to match the group’s skill.

Float days run two anglers and one guide per boat on the upper and lower Río Palena, sections of the Río Futaleufú, Lago Yelcho, and the lake’s inlets and outlets. The gear room stocks fly gear, NRS rafts, Hyde Power Drifter jet boats, and drift boats.

Heli-fishing flights reach high-country rivers and lakes that a road day does not: the Río Azul, the upper Tigre, the Río Tranquilo, Lago X, and Lago Rosas. Those waters hold rainbows, browns, and brook trout.

For a week built only around full-day floats, see Martín Pescador.

Up to two heli-assisted adventures are included, depending on the length of your stay and the weather.

Getting to Rio Palena Lodge

Most guests fly into Santiago (SCL), connect to Puerto Montt (PMC), then take a private charter of about 1 hour 15 minutes to Palena Airfield. An Eleven vehicle covers the last 20 minutes to the lodge.

  • Palena Airfield: charter from Santiago or Puerto Montt, then a 20-minute drive. Same-day arrival is the reason groups charter.
  • Chaitén: scheduled flights are another way in. The drive from Chaitén is longer than the Palena hop. Eleven’s planners quote that route.
  • Ground transfer: one round trip per group between the lodge and Palena or Chaitén is included. The charter and the commercial tickets are separate.

Angler Adventures confirms the charter, the airport, and the transfer with your dates.
