Overview
Royal Coachman Lodge sits on the banks of the Nuyakuk River in the Wood-Tikchik State Park region of Bristol Bay, Alaska — just downstream of the outlet to Tikchik Lake. It is the only lodge on the river. There are no neighbors, and no other boats, cars, or planes passing by. On a rare non-fly-out day, or after hours, the home water is right out the front door.
Fly Fishing Royal Coachman Lodge
Nowhere else will you find this mix in one week: all five Pacific salmon — kings, silvers, sockeye, chum, and pinks — plus rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic char, Arctic grayling, northern pike, lake trout, and sheefish. Schools of spawning salmon are routine from the lodge, and grayling rise in the lodge pool almost constantly.
Veteran guides sit with guests each evening and plan the next day around what you want to fish. The lodge flies two DeHavilland Beavers on floats. With exclusive-use permits in Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, a private trophy-trout permit, Katmai and Wood-Tikchik permits, three DNR permits, and nearly 20 boats cached across the best water, you fish a different piece of wilderness most days — and you are usually the only anglers there.
Boats at the lodge and below the falls open about 75 miles of wilderness river from the front door, with no big-lake whitecaps on a blustery day. When everything is on, the morning choice is the hard part: 25-pound pike on the surface, sea-liced salmon near the coast, mountain creeks for Arctic char, rainbows and dollies on the Nushagak, Agulapak, or Kvichak, or a mixed bag on home water.
Accommodations & Amenities at Royal Coachman
The main lodge houses the kitchen, dining room, lounge, a library corner, one guest room with a private bath, and a massage room. This is where guests and guides sit around the fire or tying bench each evening and plan the next day — there is no pre-scheduled fishing program. Royal Coachman has four furnished guest cottages, each with a living room, one or two bedrooms, and a private bath. Cabins have independent heat, excellent beds, and views of the river, the rapids, and the snowcapped peaks.

Capacity is 10–12 anglers with a camp staff of 10–12, so the week stays personal. Alcoholic beverages are not sold at the lodge. If you want wine or spirits waiting when you arrive, Royal Coachman can help you place an order before the trip.

Getting to Royal Coachman Lodge
Fly to Anchorage, then to Dillingham (DLG). The lodge’s Anchorage–Dillingham charter is $890 round trip and is billed on your invoice — it is not in the package rate. From Dillingham a Beaver floatplane completes the trip to the Nuyakuk. Alaska fishing licenses are purchased online from ADFG before you travel.
