Argentina Trout Fishing

Our outfitter in southern Patagonia, Jorge Graziosi, owner of Arroyo Claro Lodge, has been guiding in Patagonia since 1968. No one knows the fishing in this incredibly beautiful part of the world better than Señor Graziosi. Arroyo Claro Lodge is located in Cholila, one hour north of Esquel and three hours south of Bariloche, what we refer to as the "south".  Arroyo Claro Lodge is close to a collection of fabulous rivers, such as the Rivadavia, Carrileufu and Chubut.  The season is November 1 - May 1.

Set beside Lake Hess, at the base of Mount Tronador, Rio Manso Lodge is located 1 ½ hours south of Bariloche, Argentina. Managers Sebastian and Eugenia are knowledgeable and passionate about Patagonia, and their team of expert guides shares a deep knowledge of the waters surrounding the lodge. Rio Manso offers miles of wadeable streams as well as access to the protected lakes and rivers in Nahuel Huapi National Park via drift boat or skiff. Low fishing pressure around the lodge ensures large numbers of healthy browns, brookies, and rainbows.

In the "North" (North of Bariloche), Fly Fishing Andes offers miles and miles of access to private waters on multi-thousand acre estancies with rainbows, browns and, in some cases, landlocked salmon. Owner and principal guide, Alberto Cordero Biedma, offers stays at six spectacular lodges (Arroyo Verde, Tipiliuke, San Huberto,Quillen, Collon Cura Lodge and Filo Lodge, and fishing on six renowned rivers, The Traful, Chimehuin,Malleo,Quillen, Collon Cura and Filo Hua Hum. Flexible scheduling and highly personal service. Experience Argentina, First Class!  The season opens November 1 and closes the end of May.

Pira Lodge in the Ibera Marshland of Northern Argentina offers 3,500,000 acres of the most exciting Dorado fishing in the world, while enjoying gourmet dinning and world class accommodations. The freshwater Dorado, known as the "River Tiger" combines the strength of an Atlantic Salmon with the ferocity of a Tiger Shark. Opportunities to catch 14-18 pounders will surely put a bend in your rod!

Kau Tapen Lodge, Toon Ken Lodge , Villa Maria Lodge and Aurelia Lodge, all located on the famous Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego, where the sea run brown trout fishing gets better every year! Sea Run Browns in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

Nervous Waters is an Argentine Company owned and operated by Fernando & Jorge de las Carerras. The Carerras family opened the first fishing lodge on the Rio Grande, and Nervous Waters now operate 3 of the best lodges on the river system. Nervous Waters also owns and operates Bella Vista Lodge on the Rio Gallegos, Pira Lodge in Corrientes Province, Futa Lodge in Chile, and Bairs Lodge in Andros, Bahamas. The Nervous Waters properties rank among the very finest fishing lodges in the world.

Kau Tapen first opened in 1986 and is the lodge that got sea run trout fishing going on the Rio Grande. Today, it's repeat client rate is one of the highest in the industry. It is considered one of the finest lodges in the world of fishing. You must pay a premium to stay at Kau Tapen, but it is worth it, if you call early enough to get space.

Villa Maria Lodge opened in 1996 on the historic Estancia Jose Menedez and offers 16 km of water on the lower Rio Grande downstream from Kau Tapen. This is bigger water, perfect for the Spey rod enthuisiast and offers first crack at dime bright searun browns fresh from the salt.

Toon Ken Lodge opened in 1999, and fishes the opposite side of the Rio Grande from Kau Tapen and to the north. Originally guests were acommodated at a lodge on the Estancia San Julio complex, 30 minutes from the river. However, in 2004 Nervous Waters opened the spectacular new Toon Ken Lodge perched on a bluff overlooking the river. Extra rooms for singles. Great pools opposite and just upstream of Kau Tapen. Sea Run Browns to 30 pounds. Toon Ken i s fished most of the season as part of a combination package with Villa Maria Lodge, giving a nice sampling of both upper and lower river fishing.
Another excellent option is the beautiful Aurelia Lodge , situated just above Kau Tapen on Estancia Rosita. Owned by Ricardo Hermoso and managed by veteran Rio Grande guide, Peter Pereira Mullins, Aurelia offers and impressive 8 miles of double bank fishing on the Rio Grande plus15 miles on the Rio Menendez for just 8 rods. The recently refurbished lodge offers superb accommodations combining the ambience of classic Patagonia with modern comfort.
We also represent Nervous Waters elegant Bella Vista Lodge which has exclusive access to 12 miles of the Rio Gallegos with sea runs to 20+ lbs. and the Gallegos Chico, a delightful smaller tributary, with sea runs and resident browns to 5+ lbs.

Both Tierra del Fuego and Rio Gallegos can be combined with the outstanding trout fishing offered by our outfitters in Patagonia, Argentina between December and April.

Fly Fishing River in Chile

Trout fishing in Chile used to suffer from limited infrastructure and inconsistent outfitting. All that has dramatically changed over the past several years. Today, the selection of trout fishing lodges and locations in Chile is almost as varied as New Zealand.

The best fishing presently exists in approximately a 100-mile radius of Coyhaique, which is serviced by the airport in Balmaceda, a 2-hour flight south of Santiago. We represent a wonderful collection of American and Chilean outfitters, including Estancia de los Rios, an enormous private ranch on the Cisnes River; El Saltamontes, Spanish for "The Grasshoppers," another large ranch with outstanding dry fly fishing on the Nireguao River; Posada de los Farios, a small, intimate lodge fishing the lower Cisnes, which offers optional side trips to the Chilean fjords for big sea run rainbows and salmon; Yan kee Way Lodge, an exquisite facility within easy driving distance of Puerto Montt and it's sister lodge, El Patagon which accesses the spectacular and remote Figueroa River as well as the Rio and Lago Rosselat.

Experienced, energetic Montana and Chilean guides and a strategic location gives Cinco Rios Lodge access to more potent trout streams than most lodges in Chile, including the Paloma, Azul, Magote, Blanco, Simpson, Deseques, Pica Fina, Nireguao and Manihaules rivers.

Estancia del Zorro, the sister lodge to Cinco Rios, is located on a private ranch near the Chile/Argentina border.  In addition to a spring creek on the ranch with browns to 30 inches, Estancia del Zorro fishes a variety of small creeks and streams loaded with smaller browns and rainbows.

Paloma River Lodge, located in the beautiful Paloma River Valley, offers opportunities at big brown and rainbow trout on the dry fly. The lodge uses four-wheel-drive vehicles, jet-powered skiffs, and rafts to take advantage of a diverse watershed, allowing each angler to customize his fishing experience. The new lodge offers private rooms, and accommodates only 4 anglers per week.

Heart of Patagonia Lodge, is a beautiful, intimate lodge located on Rio Aysen, which fishes the renowned Rio Simpson and sets its schedule around the river's dependable evening hatches. Heart of Patagonia  is also accessible to most of the rivers fished by Cinco Rios,if the Simpson is off.  Futa Lodge, located on the Futaleufu river, is a delightful, small, authentic Chilean lodge, which fishes primarily the Futaleufu.

Nomads of the Seas is a relatively new operation, providing exploratory trips into the wild coastline of Chilean Patagonia. A new, custom-built mothership, complete with heli-pad and a fleet of jet boats, takes up to 18 anglers and 10 non-anglers into previously unfished waters. Anglers stay in super deluxe accommodations and target brown trout, rainbow trout and landlocked salmon.

Opened in 2004,
The Dragonfly Lodge, located on Rio Picacho, is only accessible by boat, takes just 6 guests per week, and offers truly remote fishing on the Picacho, Rio Roosevelt, Lago Copa, Lago Roosevelt and nearby lagoons.

A short flight or a long drive from Balmaceda to Cochrane will put you into southern Chile, where
Patagonia Baker Lodge, located on the Rio Baker, provides wading and jet boat access to the well known Rio Baker.
