Offshore Big Game Fishing
Piñas Bay is famous for its world-class big game fishing. Black Marlin can be targeted year-round, with peak season occurring in January and February when these magnificent fish are most abundant. During these months, anglers regularly encounter Black Marlin weighing 300 to 600 pounds, with some trophy fish exceeding 800 pounds. Blue Marlin are also abundant, particularly from June through September and in December, with fish commonly weighing 200 to 400 pounds.
Sailfish are another highlight of the offshore fishery, with large specimens regularly exceeding 100 pounds. The waters around Piñas Bay also hold impressive Yellowfin Tuna, typically ranging from 100 to 250 pounds, and Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) averaging 50 to 60 pounds. Inshore Light Tackle Fishing
The inshore fishery at Tropic Star Lodge is equally impressive, with Roosterfish being the star attraction. Black Marlin Season (January – February)
January and February represent the peak season for Black Marlin at Tropic Star Lodge. This is the most sought-after time to visit, and bookings should be made 1-2 years in advance due to high demand. During this season, only 7-night, 6-day fishing packages are available, reflecting the premium nature of this fishery. In addition to Black Marlin, anglers can also target Blue Marlin, large Sailfish (over 100 pounds), Yellowfin Tuna (100-250 pounds), and Dorado (50-60 pounds).
Inshore Season (March – May)
The Inshore Season offers flexible package lengths with options for 3-day, 4-day, or 6-day fishing packages. March features big Yellowfin Tuna and excellent inshore fishing. April offers record-sized Roosterfish and other inshore game fish. May is highlighted by the annual Roosterfish Tournament, with abundant Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Bluefin Trevally, and Grouper available. Blue Marlin Season (June – September & December)
June and July are excellent for big Roosterfish, with some fish exceeding 70 pounds. August offers big Blue Marlin and Sailfish, with some Black Marlin closer inshore. September can be excellent for Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, and Sailfish, with an excellent offshore bite for large Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado. December is a great all-around month for most species, including Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Dorado.

Getting to Tropic Star Lodge
Travel to Tropic Star Lodge is a seamless and comfortable process. Guests begin by flying to Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City, where they are met at the airport and transferred to their hotel for an overnight stay. The following morning, guests take a 30-minute drive to the regional airport for a charter flight of just under one hour to Bahía Piñas.
Upon arrival at the airstrip, lodge staff escort guests via a short bus ride and a 10-15 minute water taxi to the lodge. The total journey from Panama City to the lodge takes approximately 2-3 hours, but the remote location ensures that once you arrive, you’re in a world-class fishing destination with minimal distractions.

Dave and Christine Decker’s Complete Fly Fisher is one of Montana’s finest fishing lodges and is ideally situated directly on the legendary Big Hole River.
CFF specializes in dry fly fishing, which is best when the water levels drop sometime after the fourth of July.
The record fish at the Complete Fly Fisher is a 30-inch, 8-pound brown trout taken on a dry fly. That fish was the exception, but fish over three pounds are landed every year.

Expert Guides – Professional local guides ensure a top-tier fishing experience for all skill levels.
The Big Hole, Wise and Beaverhead Rivers were traditionally the Complete Fly Fishers main area of expertise. However, in recent years the lodge has expanded its repertorie of waters to include Rock Creek, the Ruby, Red Rock, Bitterroot, Clarks Fork, Jefferson, Madison, Missouri and Yellowsone Rivers, as well as Spring Creek Fishing. The Big Hole remains a main staple of the lodge’s angling diet.
CFF has selectively guided anglers down Rock Creek for many seasons. Several years ago, through new partnerships with the U.S. and Lolo Forests Services, CFF has obtained the necessary permits to make this special creek available to all of its clients. For steady action and scenery, many anglers feel that Rock Creek is unequaled.
CFF has also obtained permission from the U.S. Forest Serivice to maintain a seasonal camp along the banks of Rock Creek, allowing guests to overnight in this wild and beautiful river corridor. Guests will enjoy comfortable accommodations and fresh cuisine excellently prepared by Complete Fly Fisher staff. This wilderness adventure should be booked well in advance of your trip.
Throughout Montana and the American west, the Jefferson River is known for its trout of immense size and unyielding character. The harsh environmental conditions of the Jefferson and natural selection have left only the strongest and most aggressive survivors. These fish are opportunistic feeders, attacking high-protien whitefish, sculpins and crayfish. Complete Fly Fisher’s biggest and strongest trout are routinely pulled from the Jefferson.
The Big Hole has over 100 miles of fishable water. While there is very good fishing near the lodge, most guests choose to float the river, stopping to wade the productive pools. The scenery is magnificent as you drift through cattle ranches and canyons. It is one of the very few western rivers that, in addition to brown, rainbow, and brook trout, holds cutthroat trout and grayling.
In addition to the Big Hole and it’s tributary, the Wise River (pictured below), is also a freestone river. Big boulders and willowed banks make for great pocket water fishing.
The Complete Fly Fisher is an ideal place for couples, families, or groups composed of expert and novice fly fishermen. Experts will be challenged by the Big Hole’s browns. Novices will return from a week’s outing with a feeling of accomplishment, having been taught casting skills by competent instructors. The CFF staff teaches people to fish while they’re fishing.
There is a tackle shop that carries Sage, Loomis, and Winston rods and accessories. Even if you arrive without a rod or reel, the CFF will outfit you with their brand name equipment, a service, which is included in the cost. To help you decide on when to schedule your angling adventure, a month-by-month description follows:
JUNE: From around June 10th, the giant Salmon flies begin to emerge in the Lower Big Hole River. This emergence steadily moves upstream until early July. Huge dry flies and nymphs that imitate the naturals will bring the big boys out. As large trout protect prime feeding stations, streamer patterns can bring thrilling strikes. High, fast water makes this a truly exciting time to be on the Big Hole River.
JULY: Golden stone and tremendous Caddis fly hatches replace the Salmon flies. As water drops and clears, comfortable wading is now possible and trout will spread out making for more diversified angling. July offers steady fishing from about dawn til dusk; and we do fish until dark! Weather can be particularly nice during July, with dry flies and sunshine the daily fare.
AUGUST: The hoppers are out! Caddis and small Mayflies are hatching early and late in the day. Excellent streamer fishing can be yours, along with the fish of a lifetime. Terrestrials are abundant and trout are looking for them. Flat-water angling is available for the spring creek devotee; small flies, picky fish, great challenge and usually superb weather!
SEPTEMBER: Fall is beautiful on the Big Hole and can generate some spectacular angling. Brown trout moving to spawn are very aggressive and smash big streamers. Steady dry-fly fishing and the season’s lowest water bring anglers from all over the world to fish the Big Hole. While floating is still effective, wading can be tremendous sport and is recommended. Weather can range from hot and dry, to cool and wet, so come prepared for everything.
At the Complete Fly Fisher a maximum of 14 guests are accommodated in six spacious cottages and a master suite located in the main lodge.
The Complete Fly Fisher has traditionally been known for its excellence in the dining room as well. They take great pride in finding the most creative and enthusiastic chefs to prepare culinary adventures to accompany the world class fishing. Typically each week’s menu is tailored to meet guests’ preferences and pallet.

Depending upon availability, anglers may extend a stay beyond 6 nights/5 days. Trips can be extended at a cost of $960 per day (subject to change). This rate also applies for stays of less than 6 nights.
A 50% deposit per person is necessary to secure a reservation. The balance is payable upon departure from the Complete Fly Fisher in cash, travelers checks or by personal check.
We also represent guides throughout Montana and can design individual itineraries should you want to extend your trip. The Complete Fly Fisher is in great demand, so it is a good idea to plan well ahead.

The Peace & Plenty Bonefish Lodge has everything you could want in a first class bonefish lodge; quick access to miles of productive flats, state of the art flats boats, experienced Bahamian guides, outstanding food, American management and a physical plant as comfortable and picturesque as many in the Bahamas that charge far more.
The Bonefish Lodge consists of a majestic cedar and stone two-story building with guest accommodations in a separate building adjacent to the main lodge. The building has 8 nicely appointed and spacious rooms. All the rooms are air-conditioned, have two queen beds with tiled floors, full bath, large dresser and a porch overlooking the water.

Dining and Facilities
The main lodge’s ground floor consists of a beautifully decorated restaurant and bar. You will be surrounded by many pictures of fishing success with autographs of celebrities adorning the walls. You can expect to be served a variety of extremely well prepared menu items by local Exuman, Chef Martin, such as lobster, fresh fish, steaks and other Bahamian specialties. The food at the Bonefish Lodge is so popular that locals come from Georgetown to have a wonderful night out. I highly recommend the conch chowder and cracked conch! Did I mention the Bacardi Rum Chocolate cake?
Off of the dining room is an expansive wooden deck jutting out onto the water, adjoining the docks where the bonefish skiffs are tied up. The deck, with several covered picnic tables and benches, is ideal for assembling gear and setting up rods. A newly installed salt water wading pool is the perfect way to relax and enjoy a Kalik (local beer) under a beautiful Bahamian sky after fishing.
Adjacent to the main dock is also a saltwater lagoon which acts as a live fish tank for the resident snappers and lemon sharks that come for their nightly feeding by Karen Hyde.
The Fishermen’s Clubhouse
The Fishermen’s private Clubhouse on the upper level is where breakfast is often served. You will find a fully stocked honor bar and fly tying area, satellite TV, video library, phone area; card table and other recreational amenities here. The wrap around second story porch is a great place to unwind and talk about your fishing experience and plan for your next days fishing while the sun sets.
Bonefishing on Great Exuma
Exuma has quality bonefishing with good numbers of fish in the 3 – 5 pound class, with occasional fish running up to about 8 or 9 pounds. Flats are located on both sides of the island but are generally inaccessible without a guide and boat. The west side flats are divided into two general areas, the airport flats, which often provide great numbers of smaller fish, and the outer Cay flats which can provide the best chances for bigger bonefish as well as the occasional permit.
The east side flats run from about 15 minutes south of George Town to the Little Exumas and can provide opportunities for bigger (6 – 9 pound) fish. Other flats species available include barracudas, sharks and the occasional permit.
Fishing Fleet and Guides
Peace & Plenty fishes up to as many as 10 boats and guides a day. The boats are docked at the main lodge and in Moss Town, a 20 minute taxi ride from George Town. The shallow draft skiffs powered by 25 hp outboards have nice size casting platforms and good rod storage. Although you may fish from the boat, Exuma’s main attraction are the beautiful, firm white sand flats which are perfect for wading.
All Peace & Plenty guides work on a rotational basis and you are apt to fish with any of the guides during your stay. Lodge manager Bob Hyde explains that you are going to catch more fish and have a better experience since each guide specializes in his own area were they are confident you’ll catch the most fish.
Location and Travel
The island of Great Exuma is located 130 nautical miles southeast of Nassau in the Southern Out or “Family” islands of the Bahama chain. The village of George Town, on the eastern side, is the island’s center of activity and home to the charming Club Peace & Plenty Hotel, the original establishment of Peace & Plenty’s 3 hotel properties (The Bonefish Lodge, The Beach Inn and Club Peace & Plenty).
The 2 facilities in town of Peace & Plenty are located on a site originally occupied 200 years ago by a cotton plantation. The hotel is situated on George Town harbor, a popular anchorage for yachts cruising the Out Islands. Combination trips between all three locations is possible and offer a wonderful alternative for the angler who wished to bring his family.
Travel Information & Documents: American Eagle and Bahamas Air fly direct to Exuma from Miami International Airport. Bahamas Air also services Exuma from Nassau where a number of U.S. carriers fly daily. Entering the Bahamas, a U.S. citizen must have two pieces of identification (one being a birth certificate, the other a driver’s license, voter’s registration card, etc.) one of which must have a picture.
Suggested Tackle
Fly Fishing: While rod selection is a personal choice, a good rule of thumb would be a 9-foot graphite rod designed to throw an 8-weight fly line. Reels should have a smooth drag and a capacity for at least 150 yards of 20 pound dacron backing plus the appropriate fly line. Fly line manufacturers offer many choices, however, any quality weight forward, floating line will be a good choice. Leaders would be 8 to 12 pound test and 9 to 12 feet long. Standard bonefish patterns tied on #4, #6 and #8 hooks in varied weights and colors are in order. Please feel free to contact us for more specific information regarding the above.
Spin Fishing: A reasonably stiff 7-foot rod balanced for 8 to 12 pound test monofilament matched to reel with a smooth drag and a capacity for at least 150 yards. 1/8 to 1/4 oz. artificial jigs of varied colors.

Bristol Bay Lodge has spent nearly 50 seasons overlooking Lake Aleknagik in the heart of Wood-Tikchik State Park. From this hillside the crew can point floatplanes toward the Agulowak, Agulukpak, Kanektok, Goodnews, Togiak, and a dozen other rivers inside Wood-Tikchik and the neighboring Togiak National Wildlife Refuge.
Guests still talk about the mix of polished hospitality and honest Alaska bush life: legendary DeHavilland Beaver floatplanes, veteran guides, jet boats cached on remote rivers, and overnight outpost camps that keep anglers on the water when the midnight sun refuses to set.

Three hundred and fifty miles southwest of Anchorage, Bristol Bay Lodge sits in the middle of the finest freshwater fishery in North America. The Kanektok, Goodnews, Togiak, Agulowak, and Agulukpak rivers are as productive as ever, holding Chinook (king), sockeye, chum, pink, coho, Dolly Varden, arctic char, arctic grayling, rainbow trout, and northern pike throughout the season. The crew has guarded access for decades so guests can still fish legendary systems with little pressure.
Bristol Bay offers variety in species and in methods. Dry flies, nymphs, streamers, and mice all get their moments. Guests who want the complete fly-out experience can string together sight-fishing on the Agulowak, a tundra-creek mouse session on the Agulukpak, and a swing day for kings on the Togiak–all in the same week.
How the Program Flows
Each night guests sit with their guides to map the following day. Jet boats are staged on multiple rivers so flights are quick and anglers slide straight into prime water. On un-flyable days the Agulowak, a short boat ride from the dock, keeps rods bent with rainbows, grayling, char, Dolly Varden, and sockeye. Dry-fly days, nymphing setups, and streamer sessions are all on the table depending on weather and the run timing.
Much of the fishing water is reachable only by floatplane, and Bristol Bay Lodge keeps its DeHavilland Beaver fleet in top condition. Three career pilots, many with more than three decades of Alaska airtime, handle the summer schedule and have flown for the lodge for years.
Jet Boats, Guides & Staff
Guides rotate between float trips, lake outlets, coastal rivers, and overnight camps so they always know where fish are staging. Jet boats positioned on different rivers ensure fast access once planes land. The team prides itself on warm hospitality, polished logistics, and a lifetime of stories about these fisheries.
Outpost Camps & Overnight Adventures
The lodge operates two private outpost camps on exclusive water. Only four guests overnight at a time, sleeping in Weatherport tents with real beds, heaters, and fresh linens. A cook’s tent turns out dinners while two guides stay on site to keep fishing rolling well into the midnight sun. Many guests call this overnight the high point of their trip.
Life Around the Lodge
Bristol Bay Lodge hosts up to 26 guests but limits fishing weeks to about 20 anglers to keep things personal. The lodge itself is stocked with a professional kitchen, dining room, expansive living room and bar wrapped around a see-through fireplace, a library, and a fly-tying bench loaded with local favorites. Decks overlooking Lake Aleknagik become gathering spots for appetizers, cocktails, and the weekly barbecue. A hot tub and sauna wait for tired muscles, and four cedar cabins give family groups private space.
Family & Specialty Weeks
The lodge continues to welcome family sessions, small corporate groups, and multi-generation trips. Summer weeks often see three-generation parties learning to fish together, with rainbows and grayling on dry flies, sockeye by the millions, and Dolly Varden in full color. Special pricing is available for youth accompanying adult anglers during those designated family windows.
Weather & Seasonal Highlights
June brings long, bright days with temperatures in the 60s and early pushes of kings, sockeye, and trophy rainbows. Late July and August typically sit in the mid-50s to mid-60s with long twilight, big sockeye numbers, pink salmon on even years, and Dollies in top form. Expect rain at times–this is coastal Alaska–but the operation is built to keep guests fishing through changing fronts.

Three hundred and fifty miles southwest of Anchorage lies Bristol Bay and its vast watershed, home of the finest freshwater sport fishing in North America. In the heart of the watershed lies Wood-TikChik State Park, containing 14 major lakes and their connecting river systems. Guests at Bristol Bay have access to this entire pristine Alaskan fishery. The Kanektok, Goodnews, and Togiak rivers are among the most productive in Alaska. Chinook (king) salmon, sockeye (red) salmon, chum salmon, pink (humpy) salmon, coho or silver salmon, Dolly Varden, arctic char, arctic grayling, rainbow trout and northern pike are all present in vast numbers at various stages of the Alaskan fishing season.
Each night at Bristol Bay Lodge, guests get together with their guides to schedule the following day’s fishing. Bristol Bay Lodge guests also have the opportunity to fish two of Alaska’s most renowned rivers, the Agulowak and the Agulukpak, inside Wood-TikChik Park. These rivers provide productive fishing for
spotted Alaskan rainbows, grayling, char, and Dolly Varden all summer long. They are also host to the single largest sockeye salmon run anywhere in the world. On average, several million fish return to the Wood-TikChik lakes system and surrounding watershed every year. Bristol Bay Lodge guests generally begin catching the first sockeye around the 4th of July. Dry fly fishing, nymphing, and streamer fishing are all productive techniques at different times during the summer.
Additionally, just a short boat ride from the Bristol Bay Lodge’s front door is the world-famous Agulowak River, celebrated for its productive Alaskan rainbow trout fishing as well as its populations of grayling, char, Dolly Varden and sockeye salmon. Being able to access such productive fishing by boat is also a safeguard against the inevitable days of un-flyable weather, during which many other lodges cannot fish.
Much of Alaska’s best fishing water is accessible only by floatplane. Bristol Bay Lodge flies guests to their fishing destination in legendary DeHavilland Beaver floatplanes. These airplanes are comfortable and reliable, earning the nickname “workhorses of the North.” Each aircraft is in excellent condition and all are well maintained throughout the entire season.
Bristol Bay Lodge employs three pilots through the summer. Each pilot has more than three decades experience flying in Alaska and some have flown for Bristol Bay Lodge for more than 16 years. Jet boats are kept on many different rivers during the season for easy access to the most productive fishing waters. The boats ensure prompt, easy and comfortable access to the prime fishing grounds.
Bristol Bay Lodge’s two outpost camps give it another advantage that no other Alaskan fishing lodges can offer. Bristol Bay is unique in providing the opportunity for guests to enjoy two intimate, comfortable (recently upgraded) outpost camps situated on private water (an extremely rare commodity in Alaska). A maximum of four guests overnight along side these private streams, affording the opportunity to fish all night under the midnight sun or just enjoy sitting around the campfire in the middle of a vast Alaskan wilderness. Nevertheless, a full staff is always on hand. Both camps have fixed beds with fresh linens warm full sized, fleece-lined sleeping bags, heaters, running water, and full service lavatory. Each camp also has three guest tents, accommodating two fishermen per tent, as well as a cook’s tent where breakfasts and dinners are served. The camps are staffed full time by two experienced guides and a camp chef to take care of all of your needs. For many guests, this overnight experience is often the highlight of an otherwise unforgettable Alaskan fishing trip.
The main lodge at Bristol Bay accommodates up to 26 guests per week. The well-appointed facility offers casually elegant wilderness living filled with creature comforts and an atmosphere of camaraderie. The lodge is equipped professional kitchen, the dining room, a large living room and bar, a library and a huge fly tying bench laden with everything one needs to tie quality flies suited to the surrounding rivers.
The famous see-through fireplace is fronted by a panoramic view of Lake Aleknagik. In warm weather the lodge’s decks are the favorite gathering places for appetizers, cocktails and weekly barbecues. The hot tub and sauna get heavy use after fishing. Set around the lodge, but private in every regard, are four cedar cabins, often used for small groups or families.

The 2020weekly rate at Bristol Bay Lodge is $10,850 total, per person per week, including private charter.
Included: The price includes all meals, lodging based on double occupancy, fully guided daily fishing excursions(one guide per two anglers), R/T airfare Anchorage/Dillingham; all fly-outs; round-trip transportation between Dillingham (Alaskan port from which we transport guests to the lodge) and the lodge, fishing license and King Stamp, all waders, boots, rods and reels, all necessary lines and lures, professional vacuum sealing and preparation of salmon for shipping home, airline approved wet-lock fish box, Alaskan visitor’s fishing license.
Not Included: The price does not include transportation to/from Anchorage to/from home city, accommodation in Anchorage, terminal tackle — flies, lures, lines, etc. (these are available for purchase in our tackle shop), alcoholic beverages and gratuities.

WEATHER: June temperatures are usually warm, 60-70 degrees, and Bristol Bay experiences lengthy days . . . almost 20 hours of daylight.
FISHING: The lodge enjoys excellent fishing for all resident species at this time. Some of the lodge’s best catches of arctic char, dolly varden, rainbow trout, lake trout, northern pike and arctic grayling occur in June. You’ll also be fishing for king salmon, chum salmon, and will have a good chance at sockeyes.
Midsummer Family Week – Contact us for dates
Bristol Bay has an increase in demand for family weeks at different times of the season with children so busy with other summer activities. The lodge gets many three-generation parties. Midsummer offers warm weather and lots of fish. Many catch rainbows and grayling on dry flies. The sockeye salmon are in by the millions and the dolly varden run is in high gear — 50 dollies a day is not uncommon. This is a great time to bring the family and introduce them to fly fishing or further their experience.
PRICE: The ‘head/heads of the house’ or adults fish at our regular rate of $10,850 and the “children” for 50% or $5,425. These rates apply for up to 2 parents and 4 children per family group.
WEATHER: Late July and early August temperatures are normally between 55 and 65 degrees, and the days are still lengthy for long fishing hours. While generally sunny, rain is a definite possibility at this time of year.
FISHING: All resident species are available, with excellent dry-fly fishing for rainbow trout and grayling. The sockeye and pink salmon are running, as are the sea-run Dolly Varden. There is also a chance to catch an early silver salmon.

Alaska West stands out as one of Alaska’s premier camps, and in a state that abounds with world class fishing camps, that’s saying a lot. The camp sits on the Kanektok River which runs 110 miles from Kagati Lake to the Bering Sea. One of the Kanektok’s true strengths as a fishery is its relatively small size. This is a very “wader friendly” river, and perhaps one Alaska’s best to target king salmon on a fly rod. Many larger rivers require a boat and very heavy gear to target kings. Flyfishing from bank, beach or gravel bar for huge king salmon is a world-class fishing experience that few other lodges can offer.
This is a true wilderness experience, yet the Alaska West camp provides a remarkable level of comfort, with heated tents, hot showers, and hearty meals served in a dedicated dining tent. It’s the perfect basecamp for targeting all five species of Pacific salmon, along with a host of resident species, in a remote and wild setting.
The Kanektok is a premier Alaskan fishing destination for a reason. Its unique character, size, and consistent runs of fish make it one of the most productive and diverse rivers in the state. Anglers can fish effectively from the boat or by wading, and the river’s structure offers endless opportunities for all techniques.
All five Pacific Salmon species – including king, pink, chum, silver, and sockeye – surge past the Alaska West campsight every summer in huge numbers. Since the camp is less than four miles from the river mouth, these fish are fresh from the sea, bright, well-fed, and tireless fighters. To be sure, many will be very thankful that the camp loans out tackle to replace broken rods; these fish won’t come in easily. Fishermen are taken out in pairs with a guide on an 18 foot, jet-powered skiff each morning. The angler should not be surprised at landing over twenty fish in a day and will get used to having sore arms at dinnertime.
The “Alaska West” Camp & Experience
Forget everything you think you know about “tent camps.” Alaska West redefines wilderness comfort. Guests stay in heated, carpeted, and well-lit double-occupancy tents that stand up to any weather. A separate, dedicated shower building provides on-demand hot water, and a drying tent ensures your gear is ready for the next day’s adventure.
The heart of the camp is the large dining tent, where guests gather for hearty, family-style meals prepared by a professional chef. It’s the perfect place to share stories, tie flies, and relax after a long day on the water. The camp’s location provides easy access to all sections of the river, minimizing travel time and maximizing fishing time.
A Typical Day & The Fishing Program
Fishing starts as soon as the boat lands and even the weariest of the maximum eighteen guests will spring for his rod. From this moment on, fishing ceases only briefly for eating and sleeping. Anglers rise early to gobble a quick breakfast, pack a lunch, and pass through the heated wader tent. The first fish are hooked before 8:00am. The rest of the day is spent in pairs, exploring miles of pristine water on small skiffs with jet-powered outboards and one shared guide. These guides have to be truly committed to work in such an isolated spot and are happiest when they are able to show the guest exactly how much the Kanektok has to offer, including a streamside lunch of your freshly caught fish. All flies and leaders are provided to guests at no charge.
Boats arrive back in camp around 6:00pm with just enough time for fishermen to freshen up in the heated showers and commune in the dining tent. After dinner the true enthusiast has hours of daylight left to work the river on foot. When at last his arm is exhausted, the angler will return to his heated tent with wooden floor, and screened front door. Inside there are two cots with full bedding, a space heater, lamp, plenty of room for standing and for hanging damp equipment, and, thankfully, a mosquito coil. These are simple accommodations but few wakeful hours will be spent within them. The most enthusiastic angler will be put to sleep soundly by these Kanektok salmon.
World-Class Multi-Species Fishing
The Kanektok is a fish-producing factory. The season kicks off with the mighty King Salmon (Chinook), the largest and most powerful of the salmon, running from mid-June to mid-July. As the kings taper off, the river fills with Chum (“Tiger”), Sockeye, and Pink Salmon, creating a target-rich environment for anglers.
From late July through the end of the season, the Silver Salmon (Coho) arrive. These acrobatic and aggressive fish are a favorite on the fly, known for explosive takes and cartwheeling fights. Throughout it all, the river’s resident populations of beautifully spotted “Leopard” Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, and Grayling are there to be caught, growing fat on the eggs and flesh from the salmon spawn.

The Alaska West Camp is not easy to access. Plan on at least a day and a half of travel to get there. Even from Anchorage, two more single-prop flights, connecting in Bethel, must be taken before arriving at the mouth of the Kanektok. The last leg of the trip is over water, motoring up river to the campsite several miles inland.
This is wilderness fishing at its best; tracking across such a formidable expanse is all part of the experience. Keep in mind that Alaska West owes its abundance of salmon to its location on the extreme outskirts of civilization. Upstream from the camp are miles of flat, uninhabitable scrub, punctuated by thousands of glacial ponds. Dense, weathered thicket extends downstream and dissolves into the Bering Sea.

Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge is home to world class Bahamas bonefishing in the heart of South Andros. Mars Bay is the southernmost bonefishing lodge in Andros by about 5 miles, meaning a signficantly shorter boat ride to Andros’ famed southern flats. Of course, less time in the boat equates to more time bonefishing; up to an extra hour a day compared to other bonefishing lodges. Mars Bay Lodge is characterized by simple, clean comfort without added frills (no fancy linens or tablecloths). Visitors to Mars Bay should be interested primarily in bonefishing.
Andros Island is popularly considered the bonefishing capitol of the world, and south Andros is its epicenter. The bonefishing flats are remote and unpressured. Bonefish are unsophisticated and can roam the flats in schools numbering in the hundreds. Anglers will also have chances to sight cast to schools of 5lb. bones as well as the occasional double-digit cruising single. Less often guests will hook flats tarpon and the elusive permit.
Guests at Mars Bay leave from the lodge each morning in pairs, sharing a boat and guide. From the lodge, it is a short ride to healthy bonefishing flats, and the first fish are usually hooked before breakfast has been digested.
The boats are nicely equipped with poles and platforms, and always rigorously maintained. Most of the bonefish flats around Mars Bay consist of hard, white sand, and most of the bonefishing is done wading. Other species such as Jacks, Barracuda and snapper, can be found in the nearby creeks. Bonefishing access includes areas such as Beach Cay, Hawk’s Nest, Grassy Creek, Jackfish and the Water Cays. There is also an extensive flat immediately in front of the lodge for unlimited independent bonefishing. All Mars Bay bonefishing guides are Bahamas natives and have extensive knowledge of south Andros and its diverse fisheries.
Mars Bay is a clean, modern facility comprised of three buildings. The rooms are simply furnished and have a relaxed Bahamian feel. The amenities are more than adequate but not in any way luxurious. The serious fisherman, though, will find nothing lacking.
The main building – “South Villa” – contains three comfortable bedrooms and two baths. Two of these rooms have double beds and share a bathroom. The third room has two single beds and a private bathroom. In addition, the Villa has a living room with satellite TV, dining area, bar, a fully equipped kitchen, air-conditioning and a covered veranda with picnic tables.
The second building – “West Villa”- contains two bedrooms with double beds and private bathrooms, a common area with satellite TV and air-conditioning.
The third, and newest building “North Villa” has three bedrooms with private bathrooms on the first floor. There is also a small common area and dining table. The second floor of the North Villa is the managers quarters.
All rooms have daily maid service. Meals are prepared by an expert, full-time chef and consist of freshly caught fish and seafood as well as beef, pork and chicken.
Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge is American owned and run by Bill Howard, one of the hardest working men in the Bahamas. Since Mars Bay opened in 2004, Bill has done an outstanding job ensuring that the bonefishing guides are excellent, the food is great, and the beer stays ice cold.

It’s been one our favorite bonefishing lodges for more than two decades because it checks all the boxes: Exceptional fishing, luxury accommodations and amenities, an amazing location, attentive management and professional guides.
The fishing at Mangrove Cay is known for having a perennially healthy population of bonefish and amazing diversity in the fishery. There are countless tidal creeks, islands and mangrove systems, giving guides the unique ability to pick and choose the type of fishing based on the angler. Mangroves Cay’s central location on Middle Bight affords good access to North and South Bights, as well as the legendary “West Side”. This is an enormous and diverse fishery. The typical bonefish at Mangrove Cay are between 3 and 5 pounds. However, chances at 6-10 pounders are common and fish up to 14 pounds can be seen on the west side of the island. Other flats might offer smaller bonefish in schools of a thousand or more. The abundance of cays throughout the Bights allows guides to find leeward flats in most conditions.
Mangrove Cay’s team of professional guides are equally adept at poling anglers to schools of bonefish, or wading to huge singles. Whether fishing the bights, the creeks, ocean flats or on the famous “Westside”, Mangrove’s guides always go above and beyond.
The flats around Mangrove Cay are also home to permit, mutton snapper, barracuda, jacks, and various species of shark. Tarpon are occasionally seen rolling in the deeper channels and sometimes out on the flats of the West Side.
Mangrove Cay Club’s main lodge building is comprised of the bar, common area, kitchen, dining room and fly shop. It opens out on to a large verandah overlooking the Middle Bight. The attractive wooden dock is a few steps away from the main lodge. This is where the Mangrove Cay guides pick up guests each morning and drop them off in the afternoon in comfort. Sitting under the verandah with a few drinks discussing the days fishing is a favorite way to spend the evenings.
Mangrove Cay’s four guest cottages are situated along the property’s coastline between the main lodge building and their beautiful pool. Each cottage contains two guest suites, made to accommodate two anglers in two queen-sized beds. Lodge owners, Liz and Alton, wanted to make sure that each guest had plenty of space, privacy and minimal intrusion from neighbors. To accomplish this, each of Mangroves’ spacious cottages are divided into two suites by a thick soundproof wall, and separated from the other cottages by a screen of natural vegetation.
On the outside wall of each suite is an extensive rod rack, a bucket for cleaning reels, and a freshwater hose for washing rods and all other equipment each day – essentials for the harsh saltwater environment of the Bahamas. The entrance to each cottage leads to the furnished sitting room – an ideal area for laying out tackle and equipment and offers a place to go if your roommate is asleep. To one side of the sitting room is the bathroom with a very large walk-in shower and lots of shelf and hanging space. Each bathroom has plenty of towels, two waffle-weave robes, a hairdryer, electrical outlet (electricity is standard US 110 volt), as well as a full range of bathroom products. To the other side, through double sliding doors, is a spacious bedroom with two comfortable queen-sized beds. Both the sitting area and the bedroom have glass doors that open up small waterfront porches and amazing sunrise views.
The layout of Mangrove Cay’s accommodations allows an early rising angler to work with their fishing gear in the sitting room or have an early shower without waking up his companion. Likewise, one guest can take a nap in peace before dinner while the other has another room to do what they wish.
The daily meals are another of Mangrove Cay Club’s achievements. Breakfasts consist of fresh fruits, coffees and pastries as well as eggs, bacon, grits and sausage. Dinners focus on fresh seafood; local fishermen stop at the Mangrove Cay Club dock each day while the chef selects their freshest catches. His evening meals often include lobster, grouper, snapper, conch and even stone crab. The homemade desserts are also guest favorites. Hors d’oeuvres are served daily at the bar during cocktail hour.
Anglers prepare their own lunches each day from an extensive sandwich bar. From time to time the kitchen will pre-pack a lunch such as fried chicken and salad. In either case, lunches are packed in a cooler and eaten on the water.
Andros Island is widely considered one of the world’s premier destinations for bonefishing. When fishing legend Lefty Kreh was asked how he might choose to spend his last fishing day, his reply was that that he would be stalking the big bonefish of Andros Island.
Liz and Alton strategically chose to build Mangrove Cay at this remote location, formally a large coconut plantation, for the incredible access to mile upon mile of prime bonefish water without ever having to trailer a boat or ride in the open ocean. The waterfront property is situated on the north shore of Mangrove Cay and is located within minutes of some of the Bahamas’ best bonefishing flats. While staying at Mangrove Cay, anglers are poised to take advantage of the whole of the North and Middle Bights of Andros Island and the famous West Side, the creeks on Mangrove Cay, and channel access to the South Bight. Stafford Creek has a staff of hand picked guides, all trained by Prescott to be experts at utilizing the tides, weather and time of year to get the best fishing for bonefish, permit and/or Tarpon. These guides don’t “watch the clock” and fishing days start early, allowing optimal fishing hours on those flats. Guests at Stafford Creek Lodge fish from comfortable, high performance Maverick, Action Craft, and Hughes flats skiffs with 90-115 hp Yamaha 4 stroke engines.
Anglers staying at Stafford Creek Lodge will enjoy convenient access to the famous bonefishing grounds of the Joulter Cays, the west side of Andros, countless tidal creeks and lakes that pepper the island, and the local east side flats. Guests are driven to a number of separate boat launch sites, including Red Bays and Conch Sound, which allows angers access to more remote water.
The two most well known fisheries are the wading angler’s paradise, the Jouters and the land of the giants, Andros’ Westside. The Joulter Cays are made up of about 50 tiny islands spread over a 125 square-mile sand bank and is a must fish for anglers who enjoy stalking bonefish on foot. The channels that run though the Joulters keep bonefish on the flats during all tides and make it a Permit hotspot. The remote Westside flats accessed from Red Bays are some of the world’s best flats specifically for targeting big bonefish: There are very few other places on earth that offer bonefish this big and this unsophisticated. The eastside flats and creeks have smaller fish in schools or medium to large bonefish cruising in doubles and small groups.
Individual guest cabins accommodate anglers in spacious quarters. There are three cabins for a maximum of 6 guests, in one-of-a-kind rooms with local Androsian touches, such as bed frames made of local hardwoods. Each room has two queen-sized beds with down feather pillows, a spacious bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fans, rod holders, wading boot drying racks, a mini refrigerator stocked with sodas, lemonade, and water, a coffee maker and fresh coffee, a hairdryer, basic first aid kit, boat towels, bath robes/wraps, and an alarm clock/radio.
The cottages also have a sliding door that opens to a creek-side private deck with a view of Stafford Creek and a screened-in back door that opens to the yard, which is lined with fruit trees and tropical flowers attracting migratory and residential birds.
Although Stafford Creek Lodge is for bonefishing enthusiasts, other activities are available upon request such as diving or bird watching.
Stafford Creek Lodge has a well-trained, full time chef who creates excellent meals designed around fresh seafood and other local ingredients. The baseline for this fishery is plentiful bonefish averaging about 4 pounds and extensive wading flats. Larger bonefish up to 7 – 8 pounds are commonly encountered. Crooked and Acklins Trophy Lodge ups the ante with a focus and expertise on targeting other top level sport fish that frequent the bight.
While we still consider this a bonefish destinations, espeically for anglers who love to wade, Crooked and Acklins Islands are among the best Permit destinations for angler interested in chasing permit in the Bahamas. There’s a solid population of permit, with fish averaging right around 20 pounds virtually year round! While not as consistent, there is also a healthy population of resident Tarpon. Anglers may also have shots at larger migratory Tarpon during late Spring and early Summer.
Crooked and Acklins Trophy Lodge rotates their guides to give each guest an opportunity to experience as much of the fishery as possible during their stay. The guides launch out of Turtle Sound on the Crooked side (20 minute transfer from the lodge) and Acklins Cove on the Acklins side (15 minute transfer from the lodge) by 8:30AM and return to the docks by 5:30PM.
The Lodge Private Beachfront
Crooked and Acklins Trophy Lodge is located on a private beach. The main lodge, where guests stay, consists of 5 spacious air-conditioned double rooms, each with a private bathroom and bath tub, sitting area, refrigerator, TV, dresser, and chest of drawers. Breakfast and dinner are served daily at the lodge’s common area. The common area, which Crooked and Acklins Trophy Lodge calls the “bar/restaurant,” has a kitchen, dining area, and a bar.
Typically a Friday overnight in Nassau is required to take the Saturday morning Bahamas Air flight to Crooked Island. Guests are met by one of the lodge managers for the 15 minute ground transfer to the lodge.

Bair’s Lodge, located on South Andros Island, is considered by many well-traveled anglers to be the best small bonefishing lodge in the Bahamas. Bair’s reputation is built on years of offering bonefisherman access to a variety of high quality bonefish environs and consistently providing superior accommodations and service, as well as fresh, gourmet meals. This high level of service and quality bonefishing is assured by Bair’s limiting the number of guests staying at the lodge to 12 at any one time. This also means that space is limited and since repeat guests generally make their reservations a year in advance, it pays to make your reservations early.
Bair’s location on South Andros (also known as “The Bonefish Capital of the Word”) allows bonefisherman to fish all of South Andros within a ten minute to one-hour boat ride. Since the lodge is ideally situated between Kemps Bay and Mars Bay (the southern most settlement on the island) anglers can reach the expansive, firm bottomed flats of South Andros, which are some of the largest and most varied in the world. These wadable flats have excellent numbers of 3 -5 pound bonefish and are famous for the huge schools, sometimes with hundreds of bonefish in each school, that are found on the flats. The sizes of the schools are amazing sights for experienced and beginning anglers alike. Bigger bonefish in the 7 – 10+ lb range also frequent the flats in single and doubles.
In addition to the famous southern flats, there are a number of varied fishing opportunities on South Andros to keep anglers fishing new areas on a daily basis, including the many creeks (though called creeks, they are really more like giant, meandering flats systems cutting through the heart of the island), South Bight, and the West Side.
Deep Creek is just a ten-minute boat ride north of the lodge and Little Creek is approximately 10 minutes to the south. These creeks harbor good numbers of bonefish and some truly big fish (Big Creek has produced 15 pounders). The bonefish in Deep Creek are generally warier, and larger. The potential for world records in either creek is real.
Grassy Creek is further south, a 40 minute boat ride from the Lodge, or if the weather is up, Bair’s Lodge will transfer guests 15 minutes by car to a boat launch in Mars Bay where the guides meet them for the final 10 minutes into Dodem Creek (the northern arm of Grassy Creek). Grassy Creek is known for large numbers of unsophisticated fish.
The South West Cays were previously almost unreachable, requiring a 2-hour open water boat ride from the lodge, around Cistern Point at the southern tip of the island, to reach these remote bonefishing flats. The South Andros bonefishing guides discovered that they could reach the flats of South West Andros in about 45 minutes if they traversed Little Creek to the Westside. From there, angler’s will either head south towards the Grassy Cays or head north to fish uncharted flats extending up to Miller Creek and South Bight. If the tides are right, it’s possible to fish the protected waters of Little Creek on the way to the Southwest Andros. With some of the least fished flats in the Bahamas and access to the fabled West side of the island, Bair’s represents the best in sight fishing for Bahamas bonefish.
There are lots of ‘cudas on the flats, many of them over 15 pounds. Pack an extra rod rigged and ready to go for these fish. There are also mutton snapper and reports of permit out on the ocean flats. In addition to flats fishing, there is untapped blue water fishing for Wahoo, Tuna, Dorado, (Seasonal Billfish), Snapper, Barracuda and Grouper just a few miles from the beach in front of the lodge in the Tongue of the Ocean.
Bair’s Lodge itself is an attractive and comfortable guesthouse, situated on the beach, 65 feet from the ocean. Bair’s was converted into a bonefishing lodge from the residence of Stanley and Andy Bair and later ambitiously refurbished and renovated by Nervous Waters. These renovations allowed Bair’s to keep the original friendly and homey vibe of the guesthouse, but also provide to a first-class experience to satisfy even the most discerning of angler.
The lodge accommodates up to 12 guests in 6 air-conditioned rooms. All of the bedrooms are light and airy, with terracotta tiled floors, 100% white cotton sheets as well as tropical-weight down comforters and plenty of down pillows. On the main floor, there’s a self-service bar, 42″ satellite television and receives the major channels (please be aware that TV reception in the Bahamas can be unreliable), the kitchen, dining room, guest office (with internet access), gift and tackle shop, fly tying area, and the large, comfortable, air-conditioned common area. Most of the back doors open onto a long covered porch, however the double doors in the dining area open to beautiful covered verandah facing the ocean, with comfortable benches and tables to sip coffee in the morning or cocktails in the evening. The prevailing Southeast wind and verandah ceiling fans ensure there is always a breeze, so you can usually enjoy evenings outdoors without insects.
Our clients consistently rate the food at Bair’s “excellent”. Meals are prepared by a trained chef, who artfully melds traditional Bahamian flavors/dishes with modern cuisine to create a light and flavorful menu. The menu is filled with dishes like snapper with Mango salsa and barbequed beef or local favorites like cracked conch and Grouper fingers.

The Club was incorporated and constructed in the late 20’s by a group of prominent Canadians and operated as a private camp, the Canadian Salmon Club until 2017. That year, the owners of the two iconic Gaspé salmon camps, Camp Bonaventure and the Salmon Lodge purchased the Club and invested a half a million dollars restoring this historic camp, updating and modernizing while preserving the charm and essence of a classic 100 year old salmon camp. The Club is situated on 100 acres of riverfront property and retains freehold ownership of their original water, about 3.5 miles of river with 14 major pools. This sector is known as B3, and along with the adjacent B4 sector is considered the very best water on the entire river. And to provide guests access to more water, in 2019 the Club entered an agreement with the ZEC to rotate these two premier sectors. The Club’s 6-anglers now fish Sector B3 Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays and Sector B4 Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays giving guests exclusive access to over 7-miles and 26 major pools.
The Club accommodates a maximum of 6 anglers accommodated in single rooms. Each bedroom is elegantly appointed with a king size bed, fireplace, AC and ceiling fan, full private bath with walk in shower and a screened porch. A covered walkway connects the guest quarters with the Common areas which include: the screen porch overlooking the river; The Great Room with fireplace and overstuffed leather chairs and sofa; and the dining room with adjacent sitting area and fireplace which also overlooks the river.
Fishing the B3 & B4 Sectors at The Club on the Bonaventure
The Club is situated on Sector B3 (Google Earth coordinates 48°11’19.3″N 65°33’41.6″W) about 25 river miles up from the Baie de Chaleur, just below Gallagher (52) and overlooking Burnt Camp (51) and Kelly (50). All told, they have exclusive access to over 7 miles of river from Baker (68) at the top of B4 to Deep Water Ledge (42) at the bottom of B3. The Club rotates these sectors with the ZEC and fishes 3 canoes on B3 Monday, Wednesday & Friday and B4 Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday, giving guests exclusive access to 26 pools which include many of the best holding pools on the river.
Fishing days are divided into 2 sessions, mornings from approximately 7:30 am – 11:30 am and evening 4:00 pm until dusk to take advantage of the most productive hours. Guests rotate beats each fishing session so you’ll likely fish new water each and every fishing session. Weeks run Sunday to Sunday with no fishing on the Sunday turnover day.
The Bonaventure is renowned as one of the clearest salmon rivers in the world. As such, it is the dry fly fisherman’s dream river! The salmon to grilse ratio can vary year to year but is usually around 4-to-1 or better. Typical Bonnie salmon range in the mid-teens to mid-20s but 30 plus pounders are taken each year (Deep Water Ledge on B3 has produced a number of 40+ pound fish).
The Club’s guides, Jacques Bernard, Michel Bernard and Pascal St-Onge are consummate professionals with over 50 years’ experience on the river between them. They know every rock in the river and work hard to put their clients onto fish. Fishing is either from stable 26 foot Sharpe canoes or by wading.

Copal Tree Lodge, Punta Gorda, located at the southern tip of Belize’s infamous “Permit Alley”, is home to one of the world’s premier permit fisheries. From the riverside marina, Copal Tree boats run 15 minutes down the Rio Grande to enter the Gulf of Honduras. The prime permit fishing areas begin at Sickle Cay, a half mile from the mouth of the river, and extends another 13 miles northeast to the Snake Cays. Within this area are hundreds of tiny islands, cayes with lagoon flats and pop up “pancake” flats just a short distance from the mainland. These include such notable fishing grounds as Mojo Caye, Wild Cane Caye and the Snake Cayes. The outside flats affiliated with many of these cayes tend to be gently sloping off into deeper water allowing permit to be found at all tidal stages. Just inshore from these cayes is the famed Ycacos Lagoon which, particularly on the higher stages of the tide, can be an amazing inshore permit fishery. The narrow channel into the lagoon can also be a hotspot for tarpon who will lie in wait at the mouth of the channel on the outgoing tide.
Tarpon and snook offer variety options for anglers. While not as abundant as permit, one should always keep an eye out for rolling poons or popping snook, especially when running the river to and from the permit grounds. Resident tarpon are present in the rivers and lagoons year round, and larger migratory fish are sometimes encountered between April and November. Snook fishing is best between November and March. If you wish to target tarpon or snook during your stay, Copal Tree offers access to many more rivers than the Rio Grande, including Golden Stream, Deep River, the Monkey River, and Moho River.
Bonefishing opportunities are limited, with the best chances existing out at the Sapodilla Cayes, a fairly long run from the lodge. While there are decent numbers of fish there, they tend to be small. If luck is with you in the morning (and you land both a permit and a tarpon), your chances of closing out the Grand Slam are good out at the Sapodillas!
Formerly known as Belcampo Belize, the lodge was completely revonvated in 2008 – 2009 as Machaca Hill and the new owner purchased the 12,000 acres of rainforest surrounding the lodge. The Jungle Farm Restaurant runs on a farm to table philosophy that creates everything in house using ingredients grown on Copal Tree’s farm or locally sourced from nearby farmers, including compassionately and organically raised chickens, sheep and pigs, and a variety of organic produce including many local staples such as mangoes, passion fruit and pityia. The seafood is sourced locally from a team of fishermen who supply Copal Tree with sustainable fish, conch, lobster and wild shrimp. Meals at Copal Tree Lodge Belize are a blend of Mayan, East Indian, Creole, Garifuna, Latin and Indo-Caribbean inspired fare and are prepared by using traditional and modern cooking techniques. Turneffe Island Resort is located on the Caye Bokel, in the southern part of Turneffe Atoll Island Chain. The Turneffe Atoll is located 30 miles off the coast of Belize and the only inhabitants on Caye Bokel are the resorts personnel and guests.
Turneffe Island Resort is 5 – 10 minutes from clear, pristine flats. If you enjoy walking the flats in pursuit of bonefish and permit, there is no better place than Turneffe Atoll’s miles upon miles of ankle deep flats that lie between the Turneffe Islands and the surrounding reef. These flats are composed of hard sand, coral and eelgrass and nearly all these flats are wadable. It’s not uncommon to see schools of 25 or more tailing bonefish against the dramatic and unusual background of palm-studded mangrove islands and crashing white surf on the barrier reef that is unlike anywhere else in the world.

Tarpon are available in mangrove creeks from approximately mid-May through December with the peak tarpon fishing occurring June, July and August. The average size of the tarpon landed at Turneffe Island Resort is between 40 – 50 lbs, but during the peak of the migration, it’s possible to get shots at 150 lb + fish.
Permit
Tailing permit sometimes appear on the shallow flats on the high tides. However, permit are also available on the deeper flats, creeks, or deeper water areas like “the elbow”.
Other Species
There is excellent grouper and snapper fishing in the many mangrove creeks surrounding the lodge.
To preserve this special fishery, the resort has limited the number of anglers each week to 8 and rotate fishing certain flats to insure the fish stay hungry and happy. English is the native language of Belize, a former English colony. The guides at Turneffe Island Resort have years of experience fishing and guiding anglers on these waters. The guides fish out of Dolphin Super Skiffs with 50 HP, 4-stroke outboard engines.
Turneffe Island Resort has first-rate facilities, especially considering its remote location. All rooms and cabanas (optional upgrade) have been extensively renovated. Every room at Turneffe Island Resort opens up to a lovely white sand beach and has ceiling fans, air conditioning and a private bathroom. We recommend it for wives and families provided everyone enjoys diving or fishing. When you visit this beautiful island you are guaranteed privacy. Turneffe Island Resort will organize special events, such as picnics and boating for “non activity” guests, but realize that all activities center around the water. Non-activity guests are welcomed, and may enjoy windsurfing, volleyball, kayaking, swimming, sunfish sail boat use and beach combing.
Diving: The most spectacular dive sites in Belize – Lighthouse Reef, Blue Hole, Glovers Reef and Half Moon Caye – are all within an hour ride by boat. (Call for diving rates). Excellent snorkeling / diving is also available near the lodge. Turneffe Island Lodge operates two new Pro 48 boats. One is used for the diving program and the other used for guest transfer and deep-sea fishing. There is no better diving in the Caribbean.
A 50% deposit is necessary to reserve space at Turneffe Island Resort and after receiving your deposit we will send a complete list of tackle and equipment to bring. Final payment is due 65 days prior to departure.

Turneffe Island Resort suggests a mid-day Saturday arrival (there are no activities scheduled for Saturdays) on either American or Continental Airlines, in order to connect to the boat transfer to the lodge mid afternoon.

Christmas Island is still one of the most prolific bonefish destinations anywhere, especially for anglers interested in pure wading. The fishery has recovered, close to the incredible numbers of bonefish that made Christmas Island famous in the 1970’s and 1980’s, since conservation mandates were put in place. The new regulations on commerical fishing and an energized local fly fishing guide culture, have breathed new life into this top saltwater fly fishing destination. Christmas Island is blessed with thousands of acres of shallow water, white sand and coral flats covered with cruising bonefish in the 2-6 pound range and the chance to hook a double-digit fish. The atoll is very close to the equator, so there is little variation in the weather from month to month. The bonefishing on Christmas Island is consistent year round, making it an exciting and rewarding bonefishing destination for both beginner and experienced anglers.
While you can spend a whole trip stalking bonefish on foot, usually over solid, white-bottomed flats, there is also variety in the fishing. Golden, Bluefin, Striped and Giant Trevally (up to 100 lbs), Triggerfish, Milkfish, Tuna, Wahoo, and even Sailfish can be caught during your stay. More recently, the Giant Trevally, or GT’s for short, have become a favorite species among fly anglers. GT’s can reach 60+ lbs and will attack a fly with reckless abandon, so don’t forget to bring a 12-weight!

New Bonefishing Destination in the Indian Ocean
St. Brandon’s Atoll, Mauritius is an exciting new bonefishing destination that has quickly become one of the top locations to land numbers of bonefish over 10 pounds. In addition to the bonefishing, Mauritius offers possibly the best Indo-pacific permit fishing anywhere in the world, and a mix of trevally, including GT’s up to 100 pounds. St Brandon’s Atoll is a remote location with a limited 12-week season. Since the mothership accommodates 8 anglers per week, Mauritius offers exclusivity in addition to the world-class bonefishing in a remote location.
Alaska is synonymous with catching big fish, and lots of fish, in an environment that is wild, rugged and plentiful, like few left on earth. In a week it is possible to catch 10 kinds of the world’s greatest game fish, a different species every day. Or, you may choose to go with only one goal; catching the biggest Rainbow of your life. Everything is possible.
In the Bristol Bay watershed, where the lodges we represent are located, the season extends from mid-June to the end of September. The calendar below explains when each species can be caught. Many fisherman plan Alaska trips around one or more species of Salmon, realizing that Trout, Char, Dolly Varden, Pike, and Grayling are available season long.
If you want to pursue Rainbows with a dry fly, focus on June and July. But, if it’s a trophy Rainbow you’re after, they’ll be several pounds heavier in August and September.
Most Alaskan outfitters operate on a weekly schedule, and range in price from $5,000 to $9,000 for 7-nights / 6-days fishing. The difference is largely a matter of accommodations and if the lodge provides daily fly-outs. Other price factors include: the number of boats and airplanes being utilized; how remote the location is; the ratio of customers to staff; fishermen to guides; and whether, tackle, transfers, licenses, and drinks are included.
Fly-out lodges provide tremendous mobility, allowing you to pick prime fishing areas within a 150 mile radius of camp, and by flying to different locations every day, you get to see the vast, spectacular scenery and wildlife Alaska is famous for.

Guests are awakened each morning with hot coffee, tea or chocolate and greeted at the airplane dock each evening with their favorite beverage. Sauna, cocktails and hor de’ouerves are available before dinner. There is a complimentary bar.
You’ll be flown in pristine DeHavilland Beaver floatplanes and the pilot/guides remain with the guests all day. Jet boats are stationed on productive rivers.
Most acclaimed of Alaskan lodges, Bristol Bay Lodge represents the classic Alaskan experience. Nestled around Bristol Bay Lodge are cozy cedar cabins, set among tall fir trees. Waiting serenely dockside are three immaculately maintained DeHavilland Beaver floatplanes. Adjacent to the floatplanes, rest the fleet of jet boats, patiently nodding on Aleknagik’s morning ripples, ready to explore the lake and its diverse rivers. The Agulowak River, a few minutes by boat from the lodge, offers wonderful fly fishing for Rainbows, Grayling, Dolly Varden, and Char.
Guests can also stay at heated overnight tent camps complete with cots, foam pads, sleeping bags, linens, a cook and two guides. These legendary Outpost Camps, famous for the extraordinary fishing they provide, offer the chance to fish all day and under the midnight sun, then sit around the campfire and truly relax.
The stylish, well-appointed lodge, built in 1972 by Ron and Maggie McMillan is now run by the long time manager Steve Laurent. Crystal Creek was originally located in the famed Wood-Tikchik area on Lake Nunavaugaluk, the southernmost Lake in the Wood River drainage. Built in the late 80’s by Terry Ebberly and veteran guide / bush pilot, Dan Michels, the lodge first opened in 1988. Dan bought out Terry a few years later and while the operation flourished and became one of Alaska’s premier fly out lodges, Dan was drawn by the by the big rainbows to the east on the Alaskan Peninsula, near the limits of their 120 mile flyout radius. In 2005, Dan found exactly what he was looking for and purchased a beautiful log & river rock lodge overlooking the Naknek River, one of Alaska’s premier trophy rainbow fisheries. By the 2006 season, Crystal Creek had moved to the new facility on the Naknek. The new location gave the lodge easy access to massive runs of all 5 species of Pacific Salmon, as well as the bounty of trophy Rainbow waters in the Katmai and Iliamna regions.
Crystal Creek is among the most luxurious lodges in Alaska. The massive 7,500 square foot log and river rock lodge and adjacent guest cabin provide spacious and tastefully appointed accommodations for up to 14 anglers. Royal Coachman Lodge is uniquely situated on the banks of the Nuyakuk River in the Wood-Tikchik State Park region of Bristol Bay, Alaska. Just downstream of the outlet to Tikchik Lake, its location offers remoteness, solitude and great local fishing on the Nuyakuk River for the rare non-fly out day or after hours fishing. Royal Coachman’s veteran guides sit with guests each evening, around the fire or tying bench, planning the details of the next day’s outing according to each client’s preference. The lodge utilizes two DeHavilland Beavers on floats. Royal Coachman’s guides have fished around the world and make this their career. They can help the beginner learn how to cast, or show the experienced fly fishermen how to reach a tricky undercut bank. They will give you as much or as little assistance as you desire.
With two exclusive permits in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, one private trophy trout fishery permit, permits to fish Katmai National Park and Wood Tikchik State Park, three department of natural resources permits, and nearly 20 boats cached throughout the best fishing locations, Royal Coachman has honed it’s competitive edge. Tent Camps and Float Trips
If you prefer a tent camp or float trip over a fly out lodge, you want to be sure you select a good river as your base of operations. The Kanektok is the best single river we’ve fished in Alaska. The Kanektok has phenomenal runs of Pacific salmon, plus strikingly colorful “Leopard” Rainbows, sea run Dolly Varden, Char and Grayling. The river is small by Alaskan standards and wadeable. There is no better river to fly fish for Kings (King Salmon 20-50 pounds). Chum fishing is outrageous and the Silver Salmon fishing will blow you away. One week Alaska West caught 1822 Silvers, an average of 22 per rod per day and many of them were taken on dry flies!
Alaska West is located 5.5 miles from the mouth of the Kanektok River, where it empties into the Bering Sea, so the Salmon are consistently fresh and dime bright. Alaska West is a “tent lodge” made up of a combination of permanent and semi-permanent structures providing unbelievable comfort in the middle of the Alaskan Wilderness. The ‘tent’ part comes from heavy vinyl covers that are removed during the winter. Everything else is permanent – wooden floors, heaters, electrical system, water system, including the permanent shower house.

Dave Duncan & Sons has developed an outstanding reputation after two generations of outfitting on the Kanektok River. From the outset, the Duncan’s knew the fishing was so good they called her “The Chosen River” to try and keep it a secret. Now, the Duncan’s operate two base camps and do a full river float on the Kanektok. While, both camps offer opportunities for all species, the Lower Base Camp is more focused on dime-bright salmon fresh from the salt and the Upper Base Camp is more focused on trophy “Leopard” Rainbows, particularly fun with a mouse imitation.
